| Job Description: | Seeking a mid- to Senior Wildlife Biologist or Botanist for POWER’s Austin and/ or Houston, TX offices. The successful candidate will possess expertise with flora and fauna of the southern/southwestern United States with an emphasis on Texas. Be highly skilled with environmental regulations including NEPA, CWA, and ESA. Have experience with federal and state protected species. Have or be qualified to obtain USFWS permit(s) for one or more species protected under ESA (e.g. golden-cheeked warbler, black-capped vireo, and /or others) and a TX scientific collection permit. And have experience with discretionary permitting through ACOE, TCEQ, TPWD, and USFWS. The position requires the ability to rapidly and accurately comprehend project issues and effects on biological resources, interact professionally with clients and technical staff, and identify solutions to meet client needs. Successful candidates must be able to lead resource level investigations and prepare technical sections of environmental documents, work in multi-resource groups, review the work of staff, mentor and support staff, and operate in an environment of tight schedules and limited budgets. Periodic travel and field work will be required. Primary duties include project coordination, client interaction, agency communications, threatened/endangered species and habitat assessments, performing field studies and protocol surveys, wetland determination and delineation surveys, participation in and review of ER/EA and EIS documents, preparation of mitigation feasibility studies, monitor project areas during construction, and support business development. Minimum requirements include: a post-graduate degree or equivalent professional experience in wildlife biology, ecology, botany, or related field and at least 7-years professional experience for our mid-level position and at least 12-years professional experience for our senior-level position in the consulting or utility industry. A well qualified candidate will possess the following skills: experience in taxonomy and in conducting field surveys, experience with southern/southwestern U.S. ecosystems, GIS and GPS experience, demonstrable management capabilities, excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, strong grammar, spelling, composition, and proofreading abilities, technical writing ability, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of computer applications, experience with traditional and renewable energy development, and transmission line projects, expert witness testimony experience (PUCT or other agencies) and USFWS permits for two or species occurring in TX.
