Charles “Luke” Milam Bachelor Housing – The Navy's First LEED Gold Certified BEQ
< Back to projects

Location: Everett, Washington

POWER A/E Consulting provided architectural and design team management services, including LEED AP services and comprehensive interior design, for this $61 million, 161,000 square foot facility providing housing for up to 512 sailors during periods of shore duty. Originally programmed and planned for LEED Silver Accreditation, the team’s design achieved 45 certified points from the U.S. Green Building Council, thereby earning LEED Gold. The Everett BEQ is the first Navy BEQ to achieve LEED Gold certification and only the second “new construction” building in the Navy to earn it. The design team accomplished project goals through meeting or exceeding all Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) recommendations; using environmentally sustainable, durable materials; developing a unit plan with extra amenities; and presenting an exterior physical appearance that complied with the Base Exterior Architectural Plan (BEAP). The project earned the Seattle 2008 SAME Design Excellence Award and was named a Regional Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Best Public Project.
