POWER Engineers performed engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for a substation expansion project to facilitate the addition of a steam turbine generator step-up transformer and 115 kV bays and associated equipment within an environmentally sensitive, confined site. Scope of work included all facets of engineering, procurement and construction of the civil, structural and electrical work. Work included site grading, concrete foundations, oil containment, grounding, conduit duct banks and vaults, cabling, control wiring and terminations, structural steel and high voltage tubular and cable bus and fittings. POWER’s EPC scope included new relay and control for both the new and existing systems. POWER also provided start-up testing and commissioning. Evaluation ensured the substation equipment was mitigated to the latest IEEE grounding standards. Additionally, POWER performed avian studies and protection. The substation was constructed on time, without incident.
