The Colorado River Substation is a 500 kV greenfield bulk power substation currently under development in a portion of Riverside County with a high potential for solar generation development. The station is designed to provide transmission access to current and future renewable power resources in the surrounding region. The design features four AA transformer banks with a total transformation capacity of approximately 4,400 MVA. The 500 kV switchrack will be capable of terminating up to ten transmission lines, and up to 16 lines can be terminated in the 230 kV switchrack. The design will feature an automation/SCADA system that incorporates many features of IEEE-61850.
