The Escanaba 3 Hydroelectric Station a run-of-the-river installation located outside of Gladstone, Michigan, on the Escanaba River, a tributary to Lake Michigan. POWER performed a due diligence of the facility as part of an Independent Engineering assignment to support the acquisition of facility along with the local electric utility by an investment fund. The due diligence included a conditions assessment, an environmental compliance and FERC licensing review, and OpEx and CapEx assessments.
Built in 1914, the facility includes a reservoir, dam and a powerhouse with an integral intake. Escanaba 3 impounds approximately 1,100 acre-feet of water at normal pool. The powerhouse contains three vertical-axis Francis-type generating units capable of producing 2.5 MW of power and operates at a head range of 30.5 feet.
