Client: National Park Service (NPS)
Location: Big Bend National Park, Texas
POWER has provided environmental services to support multiple projects at Big Bend National Park including a Trespass Livestock Management Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA) to guide protection of park resources from the adverse impacts of trespass livestock from Mexico and U.S. ranches adjacent to the park.
POWER has also provided exotic animal and plant management plans. Services included internal and public scoping meetings; response to public comments; support of the management plan using Integrated Pest Management approaches, control methods and alternatives; and a collection of expert data on the exotic species of concern. POWER is currently preparing an EA for a backcountry cabin in the Chisos Mountains which is within a Wilderness Management area. The analysis is focusing on impacts to wilderness character and experience and park operations in the backcountry.
Other projects completed for the park include a multi-use trail EA for hiking and mountain biking and an EA for installing habitat improvements for the endemic and endangered Big Bend mosquitofish.
