POWER provided detailed engineering for the new Robinson Summit 500/345 kV substation near Ely, Nevada. The station, jointly owned by NV Energy and Great Basin Transmission, is the point of origin for the southern segment of the ON Line Transmission Line (formerly Southwest Intertie Project), a new 500 kV transmission line that links NV Energy’s northern 345 kV and southern 500 kV service territories and enables a diverse set of generating sources to reach major load centers. The design included an ultimate build-out of eight 500 kV lines (1 initial), provisions for two 500 kV series capacitors, two 500 kV shunt reactors, two 500/345 kV 500MVA transformers, five 345 kV lines (2 initial), provisions for three 345 kV phase shifting transformers, one 345 kV series capacitors, one 345 kV line reactor, future static var compensator (SVC), control shelter, grading, grounding, structures, foundations, control and relaying.
