Solar Turbines, a leading manufacturer of small-to-medium gas turbine engines, hired POWER as its engineer for a two-unit cogeneration project for the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. The project involved specification and installation design for four gas-fired package boilers. The project posed substantial challenges for component and piping layout, because of extremely constricted space at the two sites. The University of Arizona posed scheduling challenges as well because of extensive construction work for other campus facility projects scheduled for the same time. POWER’s services included layout for two combined cycle installations and four package boilers at two sites, site design, equipment foundations design, piping support design, electrical distribution design, control system design, interconnect design and field engineering support.
