Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Consolidated Campus-wide Chilled Water Utility System

< Back to projects

POWER Engineers designed a next-generation chilled water utility system that consolidates campus loads – both existing and future – into a highly reliable network for the Virginia Tech campus.

We performed an in-depth assessment of the University’s varied existing chilled water systems, which includes a significant central district chilled water plant and loop, and numerous standalone chillers and several sub-districts.

There was a review of the overall campus master plan, which defined anticipated future growth, to develop an optimal system to serve the expanded campus. The project team developed a comprehensive chilled water master plan to meet anticipated cooling loads to be constructed over a thirty year timeframe.
