Evolution of Engineering Tools – 20 Year Retrospective
By: Kevin Wallace, Chun Chin and William Harvey, POWER Engineers
The past twenty years have seen evolutionary advances in the application of engineering and project management tools, with the goals of improving project schedule, coordination with contractors, and engineering costs compared to older methods. In this paper we present a review of the advances in these tools in the past decades, covering aspects such as process modeling, 3D modeling, communication, design reviews, construction support, and other aspects. Case studies from various projects are discussed, and suggestions are provided for future improvements in project execution methods.
